Bentley Mulsanne Key Celebrates Its Centenary

Mulliner, Bentley's coachbuilding unit bespoke, has created a unique keycase to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the bentley key fob brand. It's made of Dark stained Walnut with Piano Black Veneer and includes an eagle-like "B" paperweight, keys, and an original 1930s booklet that features never-before-seen 1930s 8 Litre images.

It's the perfect present to greet a new owner of their opulent vehicle.

Aesthetics

Bentley is a firm who takes its aesthetics seriously. The Continental GT is the most sophisticated open-top Bentley ever designed. Its rear tonneau for instance, displayed the largest piece of book-matched, dark-stained Burr Walnut veneer ever applied to an actual production Bentley. Similarly, the electrically-operated glass sunroof and champagne cooler that incorporated hand-blown and hand-cut lead crystal bottles marked a new benchmark in luxury and innovation.

Bentley is the most sought-after automotive brand in the world due to its distinctive design and quality. The key is constructed from vegetable tanned leather. It takes about two days to create each one. It is cut by hand, shaped, sewn, sealed and polished to create a high-quality finish. It is robust and compact, and will fit the Bentley key perfectly. Its design is similar to the Volkswagen Phaeton large car's key however it feels heavier and has a more luxurious feel.

It also has Secure-A-Key which can help prevent theft of keys that are keyless. This device is inserted into the remote-control key fob. It stops it after a couple of minutes of inactivity, preventing thieves from transmitting the frequency of the key to other devices that could unlock and start the vehicle.

Personalisation

Bentley's Mulliner division lets customers design their own vehicle. Guests sit at a series of images referred to as "mood stations" and pick a collection of images ranging from scenic vistas to sporting events - that will inspire them to design their own. When each selection is made, a pattern appears, which reveals the design and color preferences for the personalized Bentley.

The guests are given the keys in a case designed by hand and containing the R.F.I.D. enabled key cards. The keys can also be outfitted with Bentley Muliner Personalised Welcome Lamps that illuminate the door's opening path with the owner's name or emblem as they approach the vehicle.

Bentley Key Fob Programming estimates that it takes around 500 man-hours to build and build a Mulsanne. The inability to adopt new technology is the key to this laborious task. Instead of using a machine to place the perfectly matched cross-stitched leather seats workers at the Crewe factory do it by hand. And rather than letting the car's built-in sensors guide it to parallel and perpendicular parking spots the drivers must do it by hand.

The event also saw Bentley showcased its Mulliner personalization options with a special example - the Mulsanne W.O. Edition, which pays homage to founder William Osler Bentley. The 100 limited edition cars include a key that displays an item from the 1930 8 Litre crankshaft.
