The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator includes the full suite of features you'd expect from a fridge in this price range with Wi-Fi and app support through GE's SmartHQ software. The app is compatible with iOS and Android devices and allows you to manage your refrigerator from anywhere around the world. It also comes with a lot of customization options. It also gives you notifications when doors are left open, when your fridge or freezer is in need of defrosting, and when it's time to change the filter.

It would be great it GE PYE22PYNFS could offer Precise Fill, an option found in a few GE refrigerators that allows users to select how many cups they want to dispense. It does offer a countdown feature on the display of the fridge to display how much water you have left, but it's not as helpful as Precise Fill.

Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

Created to appear like a seamless part of your kitchen, Bosch's French-door refrigerator is a standout. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also boasts a veggie compartment that keeps vegetables and fruits fresher for longer and dual compressors for maximum preservation of food. The ice maker we tested is one of the most efficient and makes pyramid shaped ice using minimal water. This fridge is the perfect option for a single family or kitchenettes looking for a sleek design and top-of-the-line food preservation.

This refrigerator was the highest-rated refrigerator in our Refrigerators test, for several reasons. The freezer temperature remained steady at just above 0°F and never changed more than a tiny fraction - this is crucial to avoid the risk of a freezer burn. The refrigerator section of the fridge also did well. It reached the temperature it was set within an hour and maintained the temperature throughout our tests.

Bosch has a reputation for top-of-the-line appliances, so it's no surprise that this counter depth refrigerator is also a smart appliance with the option to connect to your home Wi-Fi network and Bosch's Home Connect platform. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. Inside, the refrigerator has an ordinary french door integrated fridge freezer-door design with gallon-sized bins for the doors on each door, two rows of shelves that capture spills and a set more spacious drawers. The top right shelf can be folded down to give tall items more headroom. You'll also find a full width drawer for deli items and an internal water dispenser.

This refrigerator is equipped with an ice maker, making it easy to move the frozen ice as needed. The freezer has thoughtful design elements, too, like sliding drawers that can help you to organize the place of items. It also has a large bin that holds plenty of frozen food items and an ice storage bin.

Smart InstaView panel is another cool feature of the refrigerator. It lets you control the fridge's temperature, lighting, and more from your smartphone. It's a great way to monitor and manage your refrigerator, especially if you're away from home.

But while the Smart InstaView is a neat feature, it doesn't necessarily enhance the overall performance of the refrigerator. In fact it took longer to defrost and chill foods in this refrigerator than some of the others we tried. This is likely due to the bigger capacity.

The doors are a different issue with this refrigerator. The sunken handles let shorter people open them from the bottom. However taller people have a difficult time closing them without slamming them. It would have been much better if these had front-mounted handles.

It's also less expensive than the best counter-depth refrigerator with an ice maker, which can make it an attractive option.

Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

If you're looking for an French door fridge that doesn't cost a fortune and isn't expensive, this Frigidaire is a solid option. It's a basic refrigerator which may not be as attractive as some of its competitors however, it does have enough features to make a good choice. Its most significant feature, the adjustable temperature drawer helps to keep food like meat and vegetables fresher for longer. It also comes with a huge ice maker as well as a water dispenser.

Another feature that is worth mentioning is the "Chill Drawer" that sits above the two crisper bins. This drawer lets you redirect a portion of your fridge's cooling power into this area, so it can be used to store food items that require special attention. You can alter this feature by using the slider located on the outside of the drawer. You can also use this to adjust the general cooling settings for the entire fridge but I've noticed that adjusting the general settings tends to have a better effect than specific ones.

In my experiments, I noticed that the temperatures in the refrigerator were fairly consistent across different areas of the refrigerator. The temperatures in the middle, top and bottom of the refrigerator didn't vary much from 38 degrees. This is a great performance, but it isn't quite at the top of our rankings.
