Three Wheeled Buggies

Whether you're seeking a buggy to jog with or just a nifty stroller to tackle neighbourhood walks, three wheeled buggies are great for mobility. Their compact design allows them to be maneuvered easily even in tight spaces.

If you want a smooth ride with your baby, opt for models with 360deg front wheels with swivel. However, they are more prone to punctures, so be prepared with a repair kit.

Sturdy frame

Figures have just been released that show that the three-wheeled vehicle - a symbol of the noughties of more money than wisdom is in a decline. They have been replaced by four-wheelers which can handle a wider range of terrain, yet still look swanky and being easy to push.

The idea is that the bigger the wheels are, the easier it'll be for your buggy to cope with rough ground and bumpy pavements. Having larger wheels both front and back makes it easier to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or on rough terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tried this buggy out with a newborn as well as a 3 wheeler stroller year old and found it coped well with cobbles, grass, rough roads, dirt tracks, and kerbs. Kath wrote "it feels sturdy to push and is very stable when traversing difficult terrain. Its tyres, which are inflatable and need to be pumped regularly, have built-in suspension. This was extremely comfortable for my children.

Another thing to consider is the seat size and shape. It should be large enough to accommodate your child's comfort. You will also want it to be able to recline for them to lie flat. Some three-wheel buggies offer an option to lie flat completely while others will only allow the parent to be facing one.

The Roma Atlas is a great option for off-road and muddy walks. The buggy can be used as a single from birth, and then expands to accommodate two children as your family expands. It is suitable for toddlers and infants from birth until age 4, and includes a bumper and raincover, a new 5-point harness, and a big padded seat. The storage options are excellent too, with a decent-sized basket, zip pockets in the hood and an easy-to-access pouch on the back of the seat unit.

Wheels with a larger diameter

Larger wheels give your buggy greater stability when driving on rough terrain. This is especially beneficial for off-road buggies. In addition, they allow you to maneuver the pushchair through narrow spaces. Certain three-wheeled buggies have rotating wheels at the front to assist you in navigating tight corners. Others are designed to run and have fixed wheels that lock for increased speed and stability. This is particularly useful when you bump against the kerb or a tree. The front wheel can be lifted slightly to keep it from hitting it.

Many 3 wheel stroller set wheel pushchairs feature air filled tyres which means they can handle many different terrains and are much more flexible than four wheelers. They also tend to be lighter. However, they're susceptible to punctures and you'll need to keep a repair kit, spare tube and pump handy.

Both of these buggies have larger wheels that, as per MFM reviewer Kath, "perform really well on grass, gravel tracks and market town cobbles" and are able to easily climb and descend kerbs. The buggies also have suspensions that, according to Kath "smooths out bumps with great efficiency".

The drawback of having larger wheels is that they can make buggies quite large and make it difficult to get through narrow spaces. This can be problematic if you intend to use it as a jogger or have to squeeze through narrow doorways while traveling. Fortunately, many models come with compact folding options that let you remove the front wheels for more compact storage.

Easy to maneuver

One of the major advantages of a three-wheel buggy is that it's much easier to maneuver especially with a child in tow. They are designed to ensure that the front wheels can turn on a dime, and are easy to move, making them ideal for terrains that are difficult, such as cobblestones, parks, bumpy roads, and dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tried out a three-wheeler with her infant and toddler and stated: "The Terrain was a delight to maneuver on the ground with the swivel rear wheel particularly useful. I was also awed by how well it coped with the kerbs, particularly when using the brake operated by hand. It was very stable going downhill or on uneven terrain."

The only drawback to this incredible maneuverability is that the three wheel buggy's bigger wheels sometimes mean that it can struggle in tight spaces - something to keep in mind if you live in a metropolitan area. If this is an issue, a 4-wheeled buggy may be a better option for you.
